Winter is coming, and with it comes a swarm of diseases that will leave you feeling miserable, achy, and sniffly. No one enjoys feeling sick and with the fast paced lifestyle we live in today’s world, few of us can afford to take time off work or school. Here are five tips to help you combat the winter ills this year.
Avoid touching your face
This may be easier said than done as most of us will touch our face without realizing it: scratch an itch on the nose, rub a sleepy eye, even applying makeup gives germs access to vulnerable access points for infection. Make a conscious decision to touch your face less or use hand sanitizer before you do.
Take your vitamins
Vitamins are easy to get and can help boost your immune system but you need to know what to take. Many people will suggest vitamin C to be a top priority; we, however, are going to add to the list this winter. Take a daily dose of omega 3 and a weekly dose of vitamin D3 to cut your chances of catching the flu in half.
Probiotics
Making sure that you have a healthy internal system will make it a little more difficult for the virus to spread. There are a variety of probiotics available at pharmacies but a natural source of probiotics is in yoghurt. Try and have a serving of yoghurt every day this winter to help fight off spreading viruses.
Homemade flu shot
If you do start to feel a bug coming on, make yourself a homemade flu shot to stop it in its tracks and give your body an immune boost. In a tumbler glass or mug, mix together: half a lemon, a pinch of cayenne pepper, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of turmeric, a teaspoon of honey, and a teaspoon of juiced ginger. Have this homemade flu shot three times a day to feel better.
While getting sick is a normal part of our lives, it’s something none of us enjoy. By taking a few precautions and leading a healthy lifestyle, you can make it harder for flu and colds to be a problem this winter.
