5 Reasons to be Happy!

We all live in such a stressed society where we are almost forced to have to live up to the expectations of society and the stresses involved in that. It’s all about keeping up with the Joneses…Do I have a fancy car? Am I staying in the best neighbourhood with the biggest house? Do I have the best job that pays the best salary?

Sometimes I wonder whether we have just lost the things that actually truly matter.

It is no wonder that we live in a depressed society.

This got me thinking, when you are feeling really down and wondering what on earth you are doing here - just ask yourself the following questions and you will be amazed at just how lucky you really are:

Do I have a roof over my head?
Most of the world’s population live in immense poverty, living in shacks with leaking roofs. Whole families live in squalor with no water and terrible sewerage facilities, can you imagine living like that?

I live in a small home, it really is nothing fancy, but it does have solid walls. I switch on the tap and I am able to flush the toilet and I have clean drinking water.

How lucky am I?

Do I have food on my table?
So many people go to bed at night with empty stomachs. They cannot even afford to buy basic things like bread and milk.
I can go to the local supermarket and buy food off the shelf. There has never been a time when I have gone to bed hungry.

How lucky am I?

Do I have clothes on my back?
How many times have you stopped at a traffic light only to see people begging on the side of the road dressed in old, tattered clothes. They have nothing!
I have a cupboard filled with clothes that I have been privileged enough to buy at local clothing shops. I have never been in a situation where I have had to wear second hand clothing and have always been dressed in quality clothes.

How lucky am I?

Do I have a means to get around?
Do I have a pair of healthy legs that allows me to walk around?
Do I have a reliable car that gets me from A to B?
If you answered yes to these, you have so much more than most people

How lucky am I?

Am I healthy?
This is probably the most important question. There is a saying that says…”without your health, you have nothing”.
In our modern society, people are diagnosed every day with cancer, people with terrible illnesses, people with missing limbs, people that are desperate for organ transplants…and the list goes on and on…and on and on.
I have a healthy body…I have eyes to see the world and ears that can listen to music. I have a strong immune system that can combat illnesses and I have organs in my body that work properly.

How lucky am I?

Do I see a smile on your face?

I am not a professional motivational speaker; I don’t have the qualifications to write this article I know. I am just an average guy, trying to get through life as best I can.
I woke up this morning feeling rather down, not sure why really. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of my bed.

The more that I thought about writing this article, the more I started realising that I must be one of the luckiest people on earth. Sometimes all it takes is to think about the simple things that so many of us take for granted. All you really need to do is to take some time to smell the flowers!

It put a smile to my face, and so I thought that I would share it with you. Maybe it will bring a smile to your face too…I can only try.
