Sunday the 18th of July is Mandela Day! Our Agents of Distinction will be using their time to give back and spend their 67 minutes by organising a food collection drive for a few local charities.
The story behind 67 minutes
Most of us are well aware that Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison. But he also spent 40 years prior fighting for equality and social change. We commemorate his 67 years of sacrifice and struggle by spending just 67 minutes (one for each year) doing our part as a nation to give back to those in desperate need.
What we're doing
"We believe that charity begins at home."
Homes of Distinction's dedicated property agents and employees are not only driven professionals but also share a desire and goal to give back to our communities.
A special collection box will be placed inside of our office entrance to encourage everyone to contribute whatever and whenever they can. Then, on July 18th, our team will spend our 67 minutes packaging all the collected food parcels and delivering them to our chosen charities.
We're also doing our part to contribute to various feeding programmes with a special focus on maize meal, coffee, sugar, tea, condensed milk, oil, pilchards, deodorants, toilet paper and cleaning materials.
Our chosen charities
Meals on Wheels organisation in Johannesburg, Meals on Wheels Johannesburg Food Distribution Services, was founded in August 1961 when the Municipality of Johannesburg approached Trinity Congregational Church (then situated in Braamfontein) to distribute food parcels to the elderly and needy. Subsequently operations moved to Yeoville and the delivery of meals started for pensioners and the disabled.

Animal lovers and our compassionate team of agents have taken to the amazing efforts of the Benoni based Pug Rescue South Africa with over 210 Pugs on the property. We are extremely impressed with their work to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Pugs and various other breeds in South Africa. We were particularly heartened by the touching story of their mascot, Pickle the Pug.

The Daily Bread Organisation has been invested in multiple charity projects throughout Johannesburg since 2008. They are particularly focused on the needs of those who are the most vulnerable in society. This includes children, the homeless, disabled people, and the elderly to name a few. We have been particularly impressed by the success, dedication, and passion of their organisation.
