5 Places to Enjoy Human Rights Day

As Human Rights Day approaches, South Africans will remember the events that lead to a unified country and celebrate the rights that previous generations fought hard to achieve. With our rich history, there are many cultural heritage sites to enjoy this Thursday in celebration of Human Rights Day. Here are our top five places to visit.

1. Liliesleaf Farm
Every South African should know the relevance of Liliesleaf Farm in relation to our country's history. As the place where the late Nelson Mandela, along with other senior ANC members, used to hide and plan their democratic revolution, Liliesleaf Farm is a must-see for every South African. The property has been restored to its original beauty at the time of the arrests with about 60% of the building being the original brickwork. 2. Maboneng
Maboneng Precinct has undergone a monumental gentrification process allowing the area to truly live up to its Sesotho name, "place of light". There is always something new to see, hear, taste, and enjoy along the various guided tours in Maboneng, giving visitors the opportunity to see the creative hub of urban artists and watch the ever-changing neighbourhood transform before their eyes. 3. The Apartheid Museum
While it goes without saying that the era of Apartheid was a dark time in our country, the Apartheid Museum in Gold Reef City allows for young and old to take a step into history and witness the events and struggle that allowed for South Africa to become the country it is today.
