Being in lockdown has led to heightened feelings of depression and anxiety especially in those who felt unsure of the future and frustrated in confinement at home. Our experiences during the Coronavirus lockdown days has changed our lives and outlook but when lockdown is over, it will be time for a detox of body and mind to get us back on track.

Here is how to get control of your body and mind again:

Routine

Get back into a normal routine. This will bring a sense of calmness and balance to your day and life. It is easier to cope with any health or mental issues if there is a regular and known pattern to your day.

Creativity

Find yourself a creative outlet such as a hobby, a special interest group or attend an educational course. This will give your life a new focus and will distract you from the past anxiety and stress.

Healthy Living

Follow a healthy living regime of:

  1. Good Eating Habits

Kickstart your detox routine by organic juicing for a few days. Follow this link for some ideas (https://www.modernhoney.com/healthy-juice-cleanse-recipes/). Thereafter, eat balanced meals at regular intervals. Add more fresh fruit and vegetables to your diet. Avoid processed foods. Reduce your sugar, salt and alcohol intake. Drink lots of water.

  1. Better Sleeping Habits

Remember if you exercise you sleep better! Try a meditation ritual before each bedtime. Try to get the right amount of sleep each night (between 7 and 9 hours) to keep you more energised and alert. This will also help with depression.

  1. Regular Exercise Habits

Choose an exercise which you really enjoy such as pilates, gardening, horse-riding or aerobics. Do stretching exercises at home or take a daily brisk walk round your garden. But establish a routine and follow this regularly. Exercise will improve your mental health and energy levels.

Mental Health

Become more conscious of your wellbeing and keep your thoughts calm and positive by:

  1. Keeping a gratitude diary to highlight the good aspects of each day.
  2. Spending more time with positive people and less with negative people.
  3. Practising positive self-talk to motivate yourself.
  4. Starting each day saying your own personal mantra which inspires and stimulates you.
  5. Finding a few minutes at the same time each day to meditate. Meditation is peaceful and aids with depression.

If you adopt the above suggestions regularly and successfully, this process will put you in control of, and detox, your body and mind again.
